The reason I got into radio was to make a difference. I'm personally involved with many local organizations, as well as the hundreds we work with through the station. Here are just a few of the groups I spend more time helping:
University of Iowa Children's Hospital, CMN, and Dance Marathon
The ARC of East Central Iowa
Knights of Columbus
Marion Youth Baseball
I enjoy coaching baseball, playing tennis, kickboxing, listening to music, playing board games with my kids, riding rollercoasters and taking long walks on the beach.
My favorite teams that I follow:
· Minnesota Vikings Football
· Nebraska Cornhuskers Football
· Univ of North Dakota Fighting Sioux Hockey
· Linn Mar Lions
· Iowa Hawkeyes
· Minnesota Twins & Cincinnati Reds Baseball
When I was younger I used to kick field goals and punt when I played football. I'm always amazed at how much better the foreign kickers are with their accuracy. Many of them played rugby or soccer and have a unique style. You may get the chance to see a new kicker for the Detroit Lions, who just signed this guy who looks more like a linebacker than a kicker. He's from Norway, the country, not Iowa. What's unique.. they found this guy from this youtube video. Check out the video. Who knows, maybe he'll be showing up on Sundays this Fall.
Ran accross this video of a guy eating a dozen Krisy Kreme donuts in 45 sec. We need to get them back in the corridor.
I am by no means a very good golfer. I play, but shoot in the high 80's, low 90's. Basically a bogie golfer. I can say that in all the tournaments I've played in, I've never been beaten by a 14 year old. Have you checked out the leader board at this year's Master tournament. The 14 year old boy from China shot a 72 yesterday and actually beat 16 of this year's top 50 players. Now, if you were one of the Top 50.. how do you explain to your kids that a 8th grader just beat you at your profession? They are saying this kid could be the next Tiger Woods. Makes for a good story. I personally hope Zach Johnson has a better weekend and can put on another green jacket.
I guess I'm not the only one going over the hill this year. Julian Lennon, son of the great John Lennon, celebrated his 50th birthday by releasing a new song called 'Someday' featuring Steven Tyler. It's a sulte to people who try to make the world a better place. We should all try to do that in our own way. Check out the song.
This is not your typical touch football. It's a touching football moment which took place over the weekend atthe Nebraska Spring Football game. As you may know, I cheer for the Hawkeyes every weekend, unless they are playing Nebraska. Im a die hard Husker fan. The team allowed a 7 year old, Jack Hoffman, to suit up for the game and actually get into the game for one play in the 4th quarter. The little boy has brain cancer. He ran 79 yards for a touchdown. Even if you were not there, it will bring a tear to your eye just watching the clip, knowing that this little kid is running for his life and what may be the highlight of his life. Pretty cool. Perhaps Iowa can do something like this for their spring game coming up on April 27th.
